Why Radiesse® for aging concerns?

Your skin is made up of three main layers: the epidermis, dermis, and subcutis. The dermis is the middle layer and is made up of collagen and elastin fibers. These fibers provide support and structure to your skin. As you age, your skin loses its ability to produce collagen. The remaining collagen begins to break down accelerated by exposure to UV rays from sunlight. This loss of collagen results in a loss of volume in your face, which leads to wrinkles and folds. When injected into the dermis, Radiesse immediately replaces lost collagen and provides support for new collagen growth. Radiesse is perfect for larger treatment areas that require structure, like cheeks and the jawline. Radiesse is also FDA-approved to treat aging in the hands.

Overview – Radiesse and you.

  • Radiesse is used to correct parts of the body where unwanted wrinkles have developed, or sagging has occurred. For example, facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth that come with age) and grooves around the mouth area, can be effectively treated.
  • Radiesse consists of tiny calcium-based particles (injected with a very fine needle) that not only replace volume loss but also stimulate new collagen growth for longer-lasting cosmetic results. The calcium-based microspheres form a scaffold around which the body produces new collagen to naturally restore the youthful facial beauty, with skin more supple, resilient, and firm.
  • With no downtime, this injection is quick and will have you in and out of our Austin, TX office in no time.

The Radiesse® treatment experience

Radiesse can be injected during an office visit in just 30 minutes. Before the procedure, the injection areas will be marked and cleaned. A local anesthetic may be used for additional comfort, however, the filler itself is mixed with an anesthetic called Lidocaine.

Using a syringe, your nurse injector will inject the Radiesse filler into the skin. Following the procedure, you may feel numb or experience redness near the injection sites, which normally subsides in a short time. There is no downtime, and you can return to work or other activities immediately following your treatment.

What to expect from radiesse?

You will notice a difference almost immediately following Radiesse injections. However, because the injection ingredients work to produce and stimulate collagen development, the results are longer lasting than some of the other fillers. You can expect results that include added volume to the face which will smooth away wrinkles, and typically last up to one year. You can undergo another procedure when the results start to fade.

Radiesse® FAQs

What about other fillers?

If you are considering injectable fillers, you have a diverse selection of fillers to choose from. Fillers such as Radiesse are considered temporary, even though the results may last up to a full year. Common filler ingredients include collagen, calcium hydroxyapatite, hyaluronic acid, polylactic acid, and the heaviest of the fillers, PMMA. During your consultation, we will speak with you about the various fillers and evaluate your facial tone, laxity, and volume levels to help you decide which filler may be the best choice.

What makes Radiesse different?

Radiesse is the only dermal filler composed of calcium-based microspheres, which are comparable to hyaluronic acid injectable fillers due to the natural ability to stimulate collagen production. The results slightly vary between the two types of fillers, and generally, clients are more pleased with results from Radiesse.

What about side effects?

After injections with Radiesse, you could experience mild redness, bruising, numbness, or itching. These are temporary side effects that usually disappear within a day or two.
